HS Girls Lax Club--launch!

To the Billings Lacrosse Community:

There have been many lacrosse pioneers in our community who have helped build lacrosse from a handful of players back in 2011... to almost a score of teams for players, both boys and girls, of all ages.  We continue to thank those Billings lacrosse pioneers, and the many others that have stepped up in the lacrosse community, so that our sport and our programs grow stronger each year.

We now welcome another new lacrosse club to Billings for high school girls:

"Magic City Girls Lacrosse"

Last night the Scorpions board voted to formally support creation of a "new" girls HS club--"Magic City Girls Lacrosse".  Our motion/vote also included recognizing five new prospective board members for this club and providing seed money to the 501c3 "Magic City Girls Lacrosse."  There are a variety of other activities the BSL Board will assist the new Magic City Girls Lacrosse club with to get the HS girls team on its feet for the 2019 season.

Many of you might ask: "Why?  Why change the structure?"  Per the Montana High School Lacrosse Association (MHSLA) a year ago, it was mandated that HS lacrosse programs may not be directly affiliated with any youth programs in MT as of 11/2018.  Reps from BSL met with the existing HS boys clubs this past summer, and we also discussed the upcoming change and associated options during our "open" BSL board meeting last month.  Thank you to the boys HS clubs for their support and insight, and to the parents who have weighed in as well.

There is a lot of work ahead, but this is an exciting time for girls lacrosse in Billings!  Thank you for your support of our girls and helping launch a new chapter of HS girls lacrosse in Billings!

Fall Lax Activities ***update***

Scorpions!

Here's some information and ***updates*** on many lacrosse activities happening across town in the near term.  For Fall indoor lax: ***Pairings and times for each age will be determined 9/25 based on numbers--we'll send an update on times 9/26.***

1. Fall Scorpion Indoor Lacrosse: Registration is OPEN for Scorpion fall lacrosse at the SportsPlex (Sunday afternoons, 30 Sep through 4 Nov).  You can find signup links on the main page for "Youth," "High School," and "Adult" signups.  This is also a great time for prospective coaches to learn the game--let us know if you'd like to help coach.

Cost is $60 for the 6 sessions.  Times will run 1PM-6PM.  Final times will be locked in depending on the final groupings of ages and on the numbers of registrants in order to try and keep the size of each hour block roughly the same.  In general, the order of any "groupings" will fall along these lines:

HS boys/adults; 14U/12U/10U/8U boys; 8U/10U/12U/14U girls; HS girls/adults

Player registration     Adults registration

***Pairings and times for each age will be determined 9/25, we'll send an update 9/26.***

4. School Outreach: The Scorpions have outreach efforts underway with a variety of schools in the community, to include Will James, Castle Rock, Riverside... and others.  If as a parent, coach, or player, you'd help like introduce lacrosse to your school, please let us know and we'll help make you part of the effort.  ***Currently looking for volunteers to help teach lax in schools***

5. Yellowstone Youth Football Outreach: We have been extended an invitation to host an outreach with Yellowstone Youth Football on a Saturday between now and 12 Oct.  If as a parent, coach, or player, you'd help like introduce lacrosse to the YYF community, please let us know and we'll help make you part of the effort.  ***Currently looking for volunteers to help with this event***

As our sport grows, know we are always looking for volunteers to "run" with the various programs that help us to grow the sport and our kids, sync the efforts of the greater lacrosse community in the Billings area, and know we are in ever growing need of volunteers with media/marketing skills to help us promote ourselves in the community.  Thank you!
